UPCOMING EVENT:

Synodality and its Discontents
October 24, 2024
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: The University of St. Mary of the Lake, Dining Hall

Dr. Harold D. Horell, Chair of the Margaret and Chester Paluch Chair of Theology here at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake, will review how the Church has relied on synodal gatherings to discern the guidance of the Spirit from the Council of Jerusalem, as discussed in Acts of the Apostles, chapter 15, through the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) to the present. You will learn what synodality is, and also learn about the critiques (discontents) voiced of it. Additionally, the presentation will explore responses to these critiques, and you will learn how and why synodality is a crucial aspect of the leadership of the Church today.

UPCOMING EVENT: SEMINARY SALUTES, RERUM NOVARUM

November 7, 2024
Started in 1991, the Seminary Salutes, Rerum Novarum dinner and awards ceremony honors lay men and women who are examples of Catholic Social Teaching in action, especially in the areas of labor, business and government.
The fundamentals of this award are: respect for the dignity of the human being and human labor, the right to organize, and the right to a living wage. The evening provides the seminary with an opportunity to identify Catholic men and women in their fields, who by their example and work have promoted the social teachings of the Church. Those honored receive the prestigious Rerum Novarum Award from the Archbishop of Chicago.
