33rd Annual Rector’s Classic
The University of Saint Mary of the Lake’s (USML) Mundelein Seminary proudly hosted its 33rd Annual Rector’s Classic on September 12, 2024. This annual golf outing, a beloved tradition among the seminary community and its supporters, continues to celebrate the community and support the seminary’s mission of educating future priests.
The Rector’s Classic offered golfers of all skill levels a chance to enjoy a beautiful course while contributing to a worthy cause. The event started with Father John Kartje, Rector and President of USML, welcoming the sponsors and guests at Pine Meadow Golf Club. After a BBQ lunch and a day of golf, guests enjoyed a reception and dinner at USML’s dining hall.
The dinner and reception consisted of cocktails, a silent auction, raffles, and an award ceremony. The highlight of the evening’s event was the recognition of Sister Rosemary Connelly, RSM, Chairman of Misericordia. Cardinal Blase Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago, presented Sister Connelly, a renowned advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with the 2024 Cardinal Joseph Bernardin In Service of One Another Catholic Humanitarian Award for her unwavering dedication and tireless efforts.
Sister Connelly’s visionary leadership has transformed Misericordia into one of the nation’s leading communities for individuals with disabilities, providing various services, including residential options, educational programs, vocational training, and therapy.
Proceeds from the Rector’s Classic will significantly contribute to the seminary’s ongoing efforts to form and educate future priests. The seminary’s commitment to providing a rigorous theological education that equips its students to serve the Church and the world with compassion and excellence is a beacon of hope for the future.
USML educates and forms lay leaders and priests to serve the Church and its people. It has over 1,000 lay students and 100 seminarians from 30 dioceses. USML’s faculty are recognized as leaders in their fields, sought-after speakers, and serve as members in pontifical academies, councils, and the International Theological Commission.
