Start Holy Week with a Lenten reflection with Father John Kartje, Rector of Mundelein Seminary. This year’s theme is “Death Be Not Proud: Seeking Hope Through Humility in Jesus’ Seven Last Words“.
On Ash Wednesday the USML community celebrated Mass and the beginning of Lent in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception.
CELEBRATION OF MUNDELEIN
April 24, 2025
The University of Saint Mary of the Lake’s Annual Celebration of Mundelein serves as a cornerstone in supporting Mundelein Seminary and shaping the future of our parish priests. On April 24, 2025 at our 32nd Celebration of Mundelein we will welcome the Very Reverend John Kartje and Cardinal Blase Cupich as hosts as we celebrate the remarkable contributions of three distinguished honorees from Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glenview: Sr. Paulanne Held, Fr. Jerry Boland, and Dr. Amy Mills. Their extraordinary dedication to faith, education, and service is a testament to the mission and values of Mundelein Seminary.
The Celebration of Mundelein is a night of fellowship, dining, and entertainment, all while making a lasting impact on the future of our Church. Together, let’s celebrate the spirit of Mundelein and support our seminarians in their sacred journey.
On February 13, 2025, Dr. Harold D. Horell, the Margaret and Chester Paluch Chair of Theology at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake (USML), delivered an inspiring lecture titled Holistic Formation in Christian Faith: Catholic Education for Belonging, Believing, Becoming, and Beyonding.
On February 22, candidates in our Deacon Formation program were installed as Lectors, where they are charged with proclaiming the readings from the Sacred Scriptures (except for the Gospel), announcing the intentions in the Prayer of the Faithful (in the absence of a deacon), and reciting or singing the responsorial psalm if there is no cantor. As distinct from the typical parish reader, these men will now exercise this ministry in a permanent way. Most Reverend Mark Bartosic presided and was assisted by Deacon Daniel Moore, Senior Coordinator for Permanent Deacon Formation for the School of Parish Leadership and Evangelization.
FEEHAN MEMORIAL LIBRARY:
THIS MONTH FROM THE ARCHIVES
THE GARDENS
As spring approaches, the campus is slowly growing green and fragrant again.
In 1943, the seminarians took a scenic walk through the campus to record their daily life. Amongst the photos were floral arrangements in front of the buildings.
Wouldn’t it be lovely to see these again?
