2025 Cardinal Meyer Lecture

Brother Peter Bray, FSC, former Vice-Chancellor of Bethlehem University, delivered the 2025 Cardinal Meyer Lecture, “A Bright Star in a Conflicted Night!” at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake (USML) on March 6 and 7.

His presentations offered insights into the enduring mission of Bethlehem University and the complexities of interreligious dialogue amidst conflict in the Holy Land.

Brother Bray, a De La Salle Christian Brother from New Zealand, drew upon his decades of experience to illuminate the challenges and triumphs of fostering education and hope in a region marked by tension. With a doctorate in leadership from the University of San Diego and over 40 years of experience in educational administration worldwide, Brother Bray provided a unique and informed perspective.

In his lectures, he offered an overview of the historical and ongoing conflicts in the Holy Land, emphasizing Bethlehem University’s role for 50 years in supporting the Christian community and providing educational opportunities for Palestinian youth. 

Brother Bray’s two-part lecture was followed by a USML faculty responses, enriching the dialogue and providing further context to the complex issues addressed.

The Cardinal Albert Meyer Lecture, established in 1984, honors the legacy of Cardinal Meyer, a renowned intellectual and advocate for the Church. This year’s event continued the tradition of bringing distinguished voices to USML, offering attendees unique and informative insights.
