MASTER OF ARTS IN LITURGICAL STUDIES

Our Masters of Arts in Liturgical Studies is a graduate-level academic program focused on the study of liturgy within the Catholic tradition. Liturgy refers to the rites, rituals, prayers, and ceremonies used in public worship, particularly within the Catholic Church.

Students achieving this degree will be able to:

  • demonstrate advanced familiarity with Catholic teaching on the sacred liturgy
  • advance the renewal of the sacred liturgy by fostering authentic liturgical participation and formation rooted in the ideals of the twentieth-century liturgical movement, the documents of the Second Vatican Council, the writings of recent popes, and the achievements of the post-Vatican II era
  • demonstrate an appreciation for the musical, artistic, ritual, and architectural dimensions of worship and how liturgical beauty contributes to the goals of the New Evangelization
  • demonstrate the ability to conduct research in the academic field of liturgy

Upon successful completion of the program, students receive a Master from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake.

ONLINE SHORT COURSE

How to Live a Liturgically Structured Life

This course defines what is meant by “structures” and how their purpose in the spiritual life is to foster the virtues. Both the benefits as well as some dangers of structures are examined. The course then reviews how structures are at work in the liturgy and walks viewers through how to apply structures to their personal life as well as to family or community life.
