Old Number One Will be on Campus
Old Number One is a 1925 Stoughton fire engine and is the first fire engine that the Village of Mundelein ever had. Back in the day, it was called Engine One. The Engine was donated to the Village as a gift from George Cardinal Mundelein as a thank you for changing the name of the village from AREA to Mundelein. The original price tag was $6,700.

The Chicago Fire Department took original delivery of the truck and tested it at Navy Pier in June of 1925. Then on July 17, 1925, a dedication ceremony was held at the University of St. Mary of the Lake.
Old Number One served the Village of Mundelein for a little over twenty years before it became too costly to keep in service. Old Number One was sold in 1946 and then moved several different places around the country before it was rescued from the scrap yard by retired Mundelein firefighter Lt. Jim Carew.

Lt. Carew began the frame up restoration when the Village re-purchased it in 2008 as a Village Centennial Legacy project. Old Number One was rededicated at a Centennial ceremony at the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary on October 17, 2009.
