Tee Up for a Brighter Future at the 35th Annual Rector’s Classic

Mark your calendar for Thursday, September 17, and join us for one of Mundelein Seminary’s most anticipated traditions—the 35th Annual Rector’s Classic. Whether you’re an avid golfer, a faithful supporter, or a business looking to make a meaningful impact, this is your opportunity to invest in the formation of tomorrow’s priests while enjoying a memorable day of fellowship and fun. The event begins at Pine Meadow Golf Club with lunch, golf, contests, and special gifts before continuing on the beautiful campus of the University of Saint Mary of the Lake for a cocktail reception, dinner, and awards.

Your participation does more than make for a great day on the course—it helps provide the academic, spiritual, and pastoral formation that prepares seminarians to faithfully serve the Church for generations to come. Every golfer, dinner guest, sponsor, and donor plays a vital role in supporting this important mission.

This year’s event will also honor Daniel Love with the 2026 Cardinal Joseph Bernardin In Service of One Another Catholic Humanitarian Award, recognizing his extraordinary commitment to the Church, the University, and the countless lives he has touched through his generous service.

Register today and help us tee up for a brighter future.

Thank You for Fueling the Faith

The University of Saint Mary of the Lake is deeply grateful to everyone who participated in this year’s Fuel the Faith Giving Day on June 15.

To all who made a gift, thank you. Your generosity is helping form the next generation of priests, deacons, and lay leaders who will serve the Church for years to come. As we celebrated the 101st anniversary of the first ordination at Mundelein Seminary, your support honored that enduring legacy by investing in its future.

Together, our community came together in an extraordinary way to strengthen the mission of the University of Saint Mary of the Lake. Every prayer, every gift, and every act of support helps ensure that we can continue our century-long tradition of preparing faithful leaders for sacred ministry.

Alumni Golf Outing

What a wonderful day of fellowship, friendship, and gratitude!

Thank you to all of our priest alumni who joined us for this year’s Alumni Golf Outing on Thursday, July 9. From time on the course to sharing stories over dinner, it was a joy to reconnect with so many members of the Mundelein Seminary family and celebrate the lifelong bonds formed here.

Our alumni’s presence is a reminder that while years may pass, the brotherhood of Mundelein Seminary endures. We are grateful for your continued witness, priestly ministry, and connection to your alma mater.

We look forward to seeing you again next year!

USML Appoints New Editor for Chicago Studies

The University of Saint Mary of the Lake has named Dr. Patty Pintado-Murphy as the new editor of Chicago Studies, succeeding Dr. Juliana Vazquez, who completed a successful three-year term leading the journal. The University extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Vazquez for her dedicated leadership and the many contributions she made in strengthening the publication during her tenure.

Dr. Pintado-Murphy brings extensive experience as a scholar, teacher, and editor to the role. Before joining the faculty at Mundelein Seminary, she served as an assistant professor of philosophy at the Pontifical College Josephinum, where she was managing editor of the Josephinum Journal of Theology. Since joining the University of Saint Mary of the Lake, she has distinguished herself through her teaching, scholarship, and commitment to the formation of future priests, deacons and lay ecclesial leaders.

As editor, Dr. Pintado-Murphy will lead a publication that for more than fifty years has provided intellectual formation for those serving in parish ministry. A peer-reviewed digital journal, Chicago Studies is dedicated to “bringing the best theology to the parish” by publishing faithful, accessible, and intellectually rigorous scholarship rooted in the Roman Catholic tradition.

Happy Birthday Msgr. Prist

On Monday, June 22, the School of Parish Leadership and Evangelization family came together to celebrate a very special milestone—Monsignor Wayne Prist’s birthday!

We are so grateful for Monsignor Prist’s leadership and dedication to our community. Please join us in wishing him a blessed and joyful year ahead!

Lilly Thriving Congregations Grant Retreat

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Lilly Endowment Thriving Congregations Grant Conference at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake’s School of Parish Leadership and Evangelization.

It was a blessing to gather with more than 60 parish and school faith formation leaders from across the Archdiocese of Chicago for a day of prayer, collaboration, and renewal. Together, we reflected on the future of evangelization, synodality, and catechetical leadership, inspired by the wisdom and encouragement of our speakers and the shared commitment of all who attended.

The work you do each day is more than teaching the faith—it is helping people encounter Christ, strengthening parish communities, and forming the next generation of disciples. Thank you for your faithful witness, generous service, and unwavering dedication to building a thriving Church. We are honored to partner with you in this vital mission.

May the Holy Spirit continue to guide and strengthen you as you lead others closer to Christ.
