Guiding Words from Our Alumni Priests

The best advice I received while discerning was, ‘Keep your eyes on Jesus.’  As a seminarian, I would advise anyone who is discerning to pray about it, talk about it, and get involved!

Alumni Priests Share their Advice on the Discernment to Priesthood

Father Michael Trail ’16
The best advice he received while discerning was,

“Don’t be afraid. Just give the priesthood a chance.”

Father Michael would advise anyone who is discerning to be open to the spirit and trust that God will give you the strength to answer His call.


Father Julio Lam ’15
Father Julio grew up and received his Sacraments at the Cathedral of St. Rosendo, Pinar del Rio, Cuba. The best advice he received while discerning was,

“Trust the Lord at all times.”

Father Julio would advise anyone who is discerning to take your time to think and pray about it, but don’t postpone it.

Father Radley grew up and received his Sacraments at Nativity of Our Savior in Portage, IN. The best advice he received while discerning was,

Father Adam grew up and received his Sacraments at St. George Parish in Georgia. The best advice he received while discerning was,

“Keep your mouth shut and your ears open.”

Father Adam would advise anyone who is discerning to trust in God. Learn to let go of your doubt and trust that you will always be happier doing that which God has asked you to do instead of the things you would want to do.
