Confraternity of Our Lady
During the spring of 2013, a number of students expressed an interest in a special Marian sodality that would promote and foster Marian devotion in the seminary community. The church in her documents on priestly formation (e.g. Program for Priestly Formation, Pastores dabo vobis, Presbyterorum Ordinis, etc.) encourage the seminarian to develp devotion to Mary. Fulton Sheen in Those Mysterious Priest notably said Mary provides the priest with the feminine love he needs as a celibate.
The Seminary administration approved the idea of a Marian sodality. Because of the popes of recent memory have called on Mary as the Star of the New Evangelization, it seemed fitting to erect a confraternity under her patronage as Mundelein Seminary seeks to train priests for the New Evangelization. For this reason, the Confraternity of Our lady, Star of the New Evangelization was founded.
The Confraternity of Our Lady, Star of the New Evangelization seeks to foster devotion to the Blessed Mother on campus. One of its goals is to introduce the seminary community to the treasury of Marian devotions within the tradition, so that they can take them to their parishes on internship and after ordination.
