2024 Acolyte Installation Mass
On January 23, Bishop Michael McGovern from the Diocese of Belleville presided over the Acolyte Installation Mass, an annual ceremony for individuals aspiring to the priesthood, marking a significant step towards Holy Orders. In this ritual, seminarians undergo the installation as lectors first and then progress to acolytes in the subsequent year.
The role of the acolyte encompasses service at the altar, supporting the Priest and Deacon. This includes preparing the altar, handling sacred vessels, and, when necessary, distributing the Eucharist to the faithful as an extraordinary minister.
During the Installation Rite, Bishop McGovern entrusted each candidate by placing the paten, containing the hosts for the Mass celebration, into their hands. He conveyed these words: “Take this vessel with bread for the celebration of the Eucharist. May your life reflect the worthiness of your service at the table of the Lord and His Church.”
