Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We hope you enjoyed “An Evening of New Beginnings,” inspired by the wisdom of Jeremiah 3:15: “I will give you shepherds after my own heart” (in Latin, Pastores dabo vobis cor iuxta meum).

We gathered not only to mark new beginnings but to celebrate the promise of shepherds who lead with God’s heart, a promise deeply rooted in faith and an unwavering commitment to forming leaders who will guide their parishioners with compassion and understanding.

The University of Saint Mary of the Lake (USML), with over a century of history, now introduces the School of Parish Leadership & Evangelization. This new chapter is dedicated to nurturing leaders who will transform parishes and respond to the changing needs of the Church, all while upholding the eternal Truth.

The University, in keeping with its rich tradition, is embarking on the “Cor Iuxta Meum” project, a profound journey into encounter-based and simulation-based learning. This endeavor seeks to enhance not only the formation of seminarians, but also priests, deacon candidates, and lay leaders, equipping them to serve their communities.

We came together to celebrate not just the programs and institutions but the vision they represent—the vision of shepherds after God’s heart, carrying the torch of knowledge and understanding into a world hungry for guidance.

Thank you for being a part of this celebration of faith, education, and the promise of a brighter future for the Church and the world.

Yours in Faith and Celebration,

Fr. John Kartje
Rector/President
