‘Summer @ the Seminary’ Brings Young Adults to Campus

Posted on August 12, 2019

Nearly 200 young adults and young families flocked to the University of Saint Mary of the Lake campus on a picture-perfect Saturday for Mundelein Seminary’s “Summer @ the Seminary” event.

Those in attendance—many of whom had previously never been on the seminary grounds—enjoyed an afternoon introduction to the beautiful campus with tours led by current seminarians, an organ concert and demonstration by director of music Linda Cerabona, access to the 3.1-mile walking path around the lake, Mass with rector Father John Kartje and a cookout dinner featuring a giveaway of Mundelein-themed prizes. Father Tom Franzman (Class of 1970) even brought out his vintage 1929 fire engine and parked it in front of the main chapel for visitors to check out.

Young adults came from all corners of the dioceses of Chicago, Rockford and Joliet. A few Mundelein alumni priests brought groups of young adults from their parishes and showed them around their alma mater. The event was an opportunity for young adults from local areas served by Mundelein Seminary to learn more about the campus and the formation of their parish priests while enjoying a beautiful day and mingling with other young Catholics and families.
