Vocation Story

“While he was still a long way off, his father caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him” (NABRE, Luke 15:20).

To know my vocation story, read the Parable of the Prodigal Son. Seriously, stop and go encounter God’s Word! Just open the link above.

Baptized into His Church and adopted as His beloved son, I experienced God’s love for me in a profound way the first day I received Jesus in the Eucharist. Later on, God whispered priesthood in my ear, but I had other ideas.

A young prodigal, I tried life my way, but hungered for lasting happiness. Eating the slop of the world, I was starving for the Bread of Life. Restless, I surrendered and once again encountered God and His abiding love for me in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. How wonderful to think yourself the seeker and to find yourself sought as His beloved!

Having finished my schooling and working in the computer industry, the Lord invited me to receive Him at Holy Mass not just on Sundays but on weekdays too. At the parish of St. Thomas the Apostle in Ann Arbor, Fr. Tony Smela helped me to be open to God’s call to priesthood. By God’s grace, I am blessed to be at Mundelein Seminary preparing for priesthood in the Diocese of Grand Rapids!

Priest Aspirations

Being God’s instrument.

What has been your favorite/most memorable story of your time at Mundelein thus far?

When I came to seminary, I thought I was giving up many things to follow God’s call. While this is true on some level, God continues to surprise me with the greater gifts He has for me.

For example, I really enjoy soccer and was playing a lot of it before seminary. When I arrived at Mundelein, I found out many other seminarians like playing soccer too. My second year, we won the Conception Seminary soccer tournament!

How can Mundelein's donors and community pray for you?

Thank you for your prayers and support!

Please pray for total surrender to God like Mary.
