Vocation Story

I’d always thought I was meant to be married. I never considered being a priest. My senior year at college was half way over, and my girlfriend of 3 years was dropping hints she wanted to get married. One of those hints was suggesting we pray a rosary together everyday for a month for our vocation together. After praying that month, I’d become convinced through readings, conversations, and prayer that I was not meant to marry this girl. But she was everything I was looking for in a future wife. God had other plans for me. I went the next six months asking God, “If not her, who?” The answer that kept coming back was, “Marry My Church.” I didn’t want to hear that; I expected to be married, have kids, buy a home. Finally, after several signs that were too coincidental to just be coincidences, I finally surrendered and called the Vocations Director for my diocese. After I graduated, I started seminary the next fall. It’s been over three years now and I couldn’t be happier. This is where God is calling me and He knows way better than I do what would fulfill me.

Priest Aspirations

Being a spiritual father for my parishioners

What has been your favorite/most memorable story of your time at Mundelein thus far?

I was worried coming here, after spending years in a fraternity, that the guys would be total religion nerds and dorky. But once I got here, I realized that the other seminarians were just regular guys who also felt called to seminary. We all have our dorky moments, but we love each other all the more for them. These guys, especially the guys on my floor, are friends I’ll have for years.

Anything Else

I’m a very large man, I know. You don’t have to tell me 😉

How can Mundelein's donors and community pray for you?

Pray for my Formators, that they may see where I need growth and help me to become the best priest I can be
