Happy Purim! (And a belated Happy Lunar New Year!)

March 1, 2018

Today in Jerusalem, residents are celebrating the Jewish holiday of Purim, which commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from Haman as told in the Book of Esther. Fireworks can be heard in the sky, revelers are enjoying food and drink, and people have donned costumes to celebrate. (Most of the world celebrated Purim yesterday, but because Jerusalem is a walled city, they celebrate today.)

Right before our retreat, we too celebrated another special day, that of the Lunar New Year. Even though that day has passed, enjoy this look back by videographer John Hoang of the Diocese of San Jose. From all of us pilgrims, we wish you a Happy Purim and Happy Year of the Dog!
