A blessing, and later… bratwurst
January 13, 2018
The 2018 pilgrimage began officially on Friday, Jan. 12, with a blessing of the pilgrims by Father John Kartje, Mundelein’s rector, during the community Mass at Mundelein. Later that afternoon, Mundelein students bade farewell to the travelers, as they began more than 24 hours of travel by plane, train (if you count the inter-terminal tram at the Munich airport), and automobile (buses on two continents).
After a lunch of bratwursts during a layover in Munich (suggested by Mundelein’s own Bavarian, Father Emery de Gaál), the pilgrims eventually arrived at their first destination in the Holy Land very early in the morning on Sunday, Jan. 14.
