During the October break, thirteen seminarians traveled to Birmingham for a mission trip to learn more about the history of African-Americans and the Black Catholic community. Patricia Klein, faculty coordinator of the Peace and Justice/Gospel of Life Apostolate, accompanied the group. The seminarians interacted with priests, deacons, and lay persons serving in the Black Catholic
Community, which suffers greatly from poverty. They met with former victims of the segregation era and helped the Consolata sisters with packing food, gardening and painting. We thank Bishop Robert Baker and Mr. James Watts, director of the Black Ministry Office for the Diocese of Birmingham for this unique opportunity.
