Mission Trip to Birmingham, AL

Posted on October 26, 2016

During the October break, six seminarians traveled to Birmingham, Alabama for a mission trip to learn more about the history of African-Americans and the Black Catholic community. Patricia Klein, faculty coordinator of the Peace and Justice/Gospel of Life Apostolate, and Fr. Dennis Spies, Associate Dean of Formation, accompanied the group. The seminarians interacted with priests, deacons, and lay persons serving in the Black Catholic Community. They served in an area which suffers greatly from poverty. They met with former victims of the segregation era and helped the Consolata sisters with packing food, gardening and painting. We thank Bishop Robert Baker and the Diocese of Birmingham for this unique opportunity.
