Dr. Gerald Casey, who briefly studied at Mundelein Seminary in 1970 before discerning the call to medicine, served as the medical expert on the tribunal that investigated the miracle that led to John Henry Newman’s canonization.
The healing of Melissa Villalobos, who experienced massive bleeding during her pregnancy, and the healthy birth of her daughter Gemma, have been accepted as the necessary miracle to proceed with the canonization of John Henry Newman on October 13, 2019.
