Institution of Acolytes

Posted on October 26, 2017

Thank you to Most Reverend Thomas Zinkula, Bishop of Davenport, for celebrating, and Most Reverend Michael Jackels, Archbishop of Dubuque, for concelebrating our Acolyte Mass on Wednesday, October 25th.

Thirty-two men were installed as Acolytes during the seminary liturgy in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception. We are grateful for the faith and dedication of the men who received this ministry. As Eucharistic Ministers they will be of valuable service to our seminary community as the reception of this ministry highlights their own relationship to the Paschal Mystery and the Eucharistic sacrifice.

“An Acolyte is one who is to help the priest and deacon prepare the altar for the Mass. By being installed to the Minor Order of Acolyte, I am not only preparing the altar, but also I am preparing to serve as a deacon and a priest of that altar one day,” said Johnathan Johnson, 2T Grand Rapids.

We are also grateful to the vocations directors who were here for this ministry and celebration: Father Thom Hennen (Davenport), Father David Kime and Father Kevin Huber (Gary), Father Eric Hill (Atlanta), Father Joe Kim (San Jose).

Please keep our new Acolytes in your prayers.
God of Mercy, through your only Son, you entrusted the bread of life to your Church.  Bless our brothers who have been chosen for the ministry of acolyte.  Grant that they may be faithful in the service of your altar and in giving to others the Bread of Life; may they grow always in faith and love, and so build up your Church.  Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
