Dear friends,
As you gather with your loved ones–whether virtually or in-person–to usher in 2021, I want to extend the prayers and good wishes of the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary community.
We all know that 2020 was a difficult year for so many reasons, and although challenges continue, there is always a sense of promising hope and infinite potential as we embark on a new year. I pray that this year will see a safe return to normalcy for all of us, but that we will also allow the hard-won lessons of 2020 to continue guiding our actions and decisions. May we all have a renewed appreciation for the blessings in our lives and a steadfast determination to recognize and attend to the needs of those around us.
Through your prayers, your support and the work of the Holy Spirit, we continue our mission of forming priests whose hearts are burning to serve in parishes across the country and around the world. Instilled with a humble confidence that conforms their hearts to Christ, 138 seminarians are discerning their path to the altar, where they will serve as a holy bridge between Christ and His people. Thank you for understanding the importance of this mission to the future of the Catholic Church.
May the peace of Christ surround you in the new year. bringing you hope, joy and love. Please continue to pray for us and be assured of our ongoing prayers for you.
Yours in the heart of Christ,
Father John Kartje
Rector, Mundelein Seminary
