Forming the Laity in Catholic Seminaries

by on October 7, 2016

Fr. Thomas A. Baima (Vice Rector for Academic Affairs), Linda Couri (Director, Institute of Lay Formation) and Nelly Lorenzo (Director, Instituto de Liderazgo Pastoral) represented USML at a symposium in Denver.  They were invited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) to participate in a year-long consultation on the formation of laity in Catholic seminaries.  ATS is the accrediting body for all degree granting seminaries and schools of theology in the United States and Canada.  The project seeks to identify the special educational needs of Catholic laity and to prepare for the writing of new educational and degree program standards for the member schools of ATS.  The USML delegation offered presentations specifically around the idea of the vocational identity of lay ministers in the Catholic Church and on the present reality of Hispanic Catholics in the United States.
