This was not always the case. In earlier centuries, Bibles were far less widely available, and access to the text was limited. This rare 1581 Latin New Testament, with vellum pages and bound in sheepskin, reflects that earlier world. Its pages contain not only the sacred text but also commentary in the form of marginalia and footnotes, offering insight into how readers engaged with and interpreted scripture in its time.
