This awareness accompanied me on our journey to Assisi, the beloved town of Saint Francis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon our arrival, we went to the retreat house where our silent retreat will take place. This time of silence and prayer will give us the grace to place all that we have received along the pilgrimage at the feet of the Lord \u2013 our experiences, emotions, and inner movements. From there, we proceeded to the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli (St. Mary of the Angels) for our daily Mass. I was immediately struck by its beauty and noble simplicity, which gently draws the soul toward prayer.<\/p>\n\n\n<style>.kb-image14681_92d570-fd .kb-image-has-overlay:after{opacity:0.3;}<\/style>\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-image kb-image14681_92d570-fd\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"2560\" src=\"https:\/\/usml.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/Picture1-14-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"kb-img wp-image-14683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/usml.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/Picture1-14-scaled.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/usml.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/Picture1-14-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/usml.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/Picture1-14-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/usml.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/Picture1-14-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/usml.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/Picture1-14-1536x2048.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><figcaption>Interior of the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I felt deeply blessed to be in such a holy place, especially while witnessing the devotion of those who entered the Porziuncola. This tiny chapel, the spiritual heart of Saint Francis\u2019s legacy, speaks powerfully of poverty, mercy, and God\u2019s forgiveness. Preserved within the grandeur of the basilica, it reminds us how we are in God, under his protection and care. Inside the basilica, we also visited the place where Saint Francis died, a space filled with peace and reverence, where kneeling in prayer was a natural and necessary reaction. Another place I loved was Saint Francis\u2019s rose garden. In the presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, we were reminded of the importance of always trusting in God\u2019s providence. He knows our hearts and our deepest needs, and His plan for us is always greater than our own.
