Although the Second Vatican Council was held 60 years ago, we are still in the process of receiving its teaching into the Church. In this presentation, we will examine Vatican II’s Declaration on Christian Education in the light of other statements on education and faith formation in the Council’s documents.

Eucharistic Congress Special Exhibit
Currently on display in Mundelein Hall is an exhibit commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 28th International Eucharistic Congress Eucharistic Procession that occurred on our campus. It highlights the moment the University of Saint Mary of the Lake became the center of the Catholic world, with trains arriving every two minutes, carrying pilgrims to the procession.

Mass of the Institution of Acolyte
On Monday, January 19, Bishop J. Mark Spalding from the Diocese of Nashville presided over the Mass of the Institution of Acolyte where seminarians are formally installed as Acolytes, signifying their official role in assisting the priest at the altar by preparing the sacred vessels and potentially distributing communion, marking a step towards ordained ministry.

Dr. Hosffman Ospino is a native of Colombia, where he pursued undergraduate studies in Philosophy. He holds an M.A. in theology with a concentration in Church History and a Ph.D. in Theology and Education from Boston College. His research explores the dialogue between faith and culture and the impact of this interchange upon Catholic theological education, catechesis, and ministry. He has served as the principal investigator for several nationally recognized studies on how the Hispanic Catholic presence is transforming parishes, schools and organizations. He has authored and edited more than a dozen books. He is a frequent speaker at national and international events. He is actively involved in ministry and faith formation projects in various parts of the United States.
