Posted on November 7, 2022

Reverend Patrick Joseph Boyle S. J.

We are profoundly saddened to announce the death of Reverend Patrick J. Boyle S. J.

Father Boyle was a faculty member and faithfully taught at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary in the Department of Moral Theology from 1984 until fall of 2019 when he became professor emeritus until spring of 2021.

Father Boyle proudly served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division and a year and a half as a chaplain with the 1st Calvary Division in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War (1969-71).
He held a M.A. from Loyola University of Chicago, Ph.L., S.T.L., from West Baden College, and Ph.D. from Marquette University. Father Boyle was also a Lecturer in Moral Theology and Assistant Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at Loyola University, author of Parvitas Materiae in Sexto in Contemporary Catholic Thought, and a Member of Fellowship of Catholic Scholars.

Father Boyle was known and beloved for not only for his candor, directness, and banter, but for his humanity, pastoral heart, and profound devotion to our faith.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. Amen.
