25th Annual Rector’s Classic Golf Outing and Awards Reception

Posted on September 26, 2016

On Thursday, September 22, 2016, seminarians and staff of Mundelein Seminary welcomed donors and golfers to the 25th Annual Rector’s Classic.  This event is Mundelein Seminary’s second largest fundraiser supporting the education and formation of our seminarians’ training for the priesthood. We were honored to present Lawrence P. and Sheila Marshall with the 2016 Joseph Cardinal Bernardin “In Service of One Another” Catholic Humanitarian Award.

The day kicked off at noon with sendoff from Rector Father John Kartje and a golf tournament played at the historic Pine Meadow Golf Course. Golfers received gifts from TaylorMade, challenged our best seminarian golfers in a “Beat the Seminarian” contest, and enjoyed lunch and refreshments throughout the afternoon.

Following the afternoon of golf, a reception, dinner and awards ceremony were held on the Mundelein campus, and attendees saw firsthand the progress being made on the Refectory construction project. The lowest net foursome received a Rector’s Cup trophy and many other raffle and silent auction items were awarded.

The highlight of the evening was the honoring of Larry and Sheila Marshall for their years of generous support of both the seminary and the Catholic Church. The Marshalls were surrounded with friends, colleagues, and family who have experienced firsthand the impact that Larry and Sheila have had on the lives of others. Larry had encouraging words for our seminarians, reminding them of the many people who are not only paving the way for them to go forward, but also standing behind them, patting them on the back and encouraging them on their journey to the priesthood. Larry and Sheila, along with all of the attendees, made a profound contribution to forming future priests through their participation in the day’s events.

Formed in tradition. Trained in compassion. Prepared to shepherd. Together with you in Christ, we are Mundelein. We form parish priests.
