On Friday, January 17, a total of 16 seminaries from across the U.S. arrived to Mundelein Seminary’s campus for the 20th Annual Father Pat O’Malley Invitational Basketball Tournament, generously supported by the Knights of Columbus. The weekend-long tournament involved many basketball games, music from pep-bands, community meals, fraternity, and the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Mass.
The winner of the tournament was Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary from Denton, Nebraska, the second place trophy went to Kenrick-Glennon Seminary from Saint Louis, Missouri, and the third place trophy went to Conception Seminary College from Conception, Missouri. Congratulations to these teams and all seminarians who played on the basketball court and who showed exemplary sportsmanship, support, and Christ-like compassion to one another.

Thank you to everyone involved who made this event possible, including our seminarian basketball tournament coordinator Robert Lamorena (Diocese of San Jose), all of the seminarians, faculty, staff from nearly every department here at Mundelein Seminary, the referees, and Deacon Randy Belice for contributing photos of the event. We also want to thank all of the seminarians who played in the invitational basketball tournament, and for their prayers throughout the weekend.
We look forward to the tournament next year, and if you missed the livestream on YouTube and Facebook you can view the videos below, as well as photos from the weekend. May we continue to foster the friendships formed this past weekend and stay united in prayer for all vocations to the priesthood.
